According to a blog post by the Washington Post, the real unemployment rate should be considered 11 percent. That’s because so many frustrated potential workers have simply stopped looking for jobs.

If you find a job listing in the newspaper or at a popular online job site, you can bet that you’ll be competing with hundreds of similarly skilled potential workers all looking to land the same position. The networking approach to finding a new job is, simply put, the most effective, by far. Your odds of landing a job recommended to you by a business associate are much higher than they are of you filling a position that has attracted 500 other resumes.
