In what types of industry would you be comfortable or uncomfortable working in? How important are flexible schedules, the ability to work from home one day a week or the chance to create new company initiatives?

Once you answer these questions, you’ll have a workable goal: You’ll know exactly what kind of company and what kind of position you want. This will help make your task of finding a job an easier one.

For instance, you might want to work at a small, family-owned company connected to public transportation. And in today’s competitive job market, you definitely don’t want to waste time applying for positions that aren’t the right fit for you.

    How quaint this advice is.  Was it written in 1995 when unemployment was below 5%?   With unemployment at 8.3% (not counting those who have whose unemployment benefits have expired) such information would be amusing if  it were not dangerous.  Flexible schedules?  Salary range?   Benefits?  Who are you kidding?   At 59 years old and unemployed for 16 months my career counselor quipped,  you know they aren’t hiring guys your age.”  

    People need to eat.  Pay mortgage. They need jobs… not outdated information such as that presented here.
