Job Hunt

Get Hired Fast Job Search Careers 2 300x300 Its no Fun Being Stuck in Job Search CareersIt comes as little surprise that a high unemployment rate is the problem that U.S. residents want to fix first. A new survey by the Opinion Research Corp. found that 39 percent of U.S. residents want to see the unemployment rate lowered before the United States fixes the other serious problems it faces. If you feel like you’re one of the many stuck in job search careers – looking for a job is now your full-time job – you can certainly understand this sentiment.

According to the survey, a higher percentage of U.S. residents want to see unemployment fixed before other problems – such as lowering the national debt, repairing Social Security and resolving the European economic crisis – are tackled.

Unemployment Down, but Still too High

The news regarding the U.S. unemployment rate has actually been fairly positive in the last month. The national unemployment rate fell to 8.5 percent in December, the lowest it has stood in three years. At the same time, the U.S. economy added more than 200,000 jobs. But even with these pieces of good news, making a professional job change is still no easy task. Just ask those unemployed people stuck in what are known as job search careers.

Intense Competition for Jobs

Even with unemployment down, there is still intense competition for all open jobs. This means that job seekers today must take advantage of all the tools available to them when they’re searching for new work. This includes conducting a social media job search, using such sites as LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter to connect with the contacts that can help you land job interviews. It also means networking with family members, friends, former co-workers, and past bosses in person or on the phone to earn letters of recommendation or tips on upcoming job openings.
