As the Wall Street Journal explains, those trying to make a professional job change are growing increasingly frustrated by online job ads. The big problem? Every job listed on sites such as Craigslist and Monster.com attracts hundreds of resumes. This results in hiring managers that quickly become overwhelmed. They can’t keep up with the number of applicants. Often, these managers don’t have enough time to look at the resumes of even the most well-qualified applicants.

Smart Software to Scan Resumes

That’s why so many tech companies today are trying to create software that can read resumes intelligently, the Wall Street Journal reports. This software would then flag the resumes of the most promising candidates for an open position.

There is a huge market for such software. The Journal reports that companies in 2012 are projected to spend $5.75 billion on online recruitment. This figure could climb to $10.4 billion by 2016 if the sluggish job market returns to its normal pre-recession levels.

Creating the Perfect Resume

Of course, this software isn’t out there yet. No one’s been able to create a tool that can effectively scan resumes to find the best-fitting person for a job. This means that if you want to find a new job today, you still have to create the best resume possible, one that lists not only where you’ve worked, but what you’ve accomplished at these positions.
