Need Tips on how to Job Search? Don’t Forget Your Blog

Get Hired Fast - how to job searchThe chances are good that you run your own blog. After all, running a blog is fun and, depending upon which blogging service you use, it can be free, too. But did you know that your personal blog can also serve as a job search tool? Turning your blog into a job finder is just one more way to learn how to job search.

The website Business Insider recently provided job seekers with some easy ways to turn their blogs into job search tools. Here is some of that advice.

Give Your Blog the Feel of a Resume

You want visitors to your blog to know that you are a professional with plenty of career achievements. One way to do this is to turn your blog into a type of online resume.

As Business Insider recommends, you can do this by creating blog pages that carry the type of headers you’d typically find on a resume. For instance, you can create a blog page titled “Awards” that lists any business awards you’ve won. You can create another page titled “Education” that lists your academic credentials. A third page titled “Experience” can list your career stops over the years.

Tell Visitors that You’re Looking for Work.

Business Insider recommends that job seekers in their “About Me” section inform visitors that they are currently looking for work.

This may sound obvious, but it’s especially important. Employers need to know that you’re on the market. They won’t if you don’t tell them.

Create a Professional Image

Your personal blog might not be as professional you’d like. Before you use your blog as a tool to help you find jobs, you’ll need to perform a makeover. Start by deleting posts that focus on your personal life. Instead, fill your blog with posts about your accomplishments at work, your academic achievements and, depending on your field, samples of your work.

For instance, if you are trying to find work as an illustrator, include plenty of art samples. If you want to work as a journalist, include links to your previously published writing.
