Five Cities with the Biggest and Lowest Paychecks

Get Hired Fast - Career InformationWant a job that comes with a big paycheck? Of course you do. But if you want to increase your odds of nabbing that big check, consider moving to the San Jose area.

That’s advice, at least, from website Payscale.com.

According to Payscale, workers earn the largest checks on average in the San Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara area of California.

And where do they earn the smallest paychecks? According to Payscale.com, that dubious honor goes to the Youngstown-Warren-Boardman area of Ohio and Pennsylvania.

Payscale.com gathered salary and career information from more than 35 million people in the 100 largest metropolitan areas in the United States to compile its lists of the cities in which people earn the largest paychecks and those in which they earn the smallest.

It’s important to note, though, that just because workers in Sunnyvale, Calif., tend to earn higher paychecks doesn’t mean that you’ll necessarily succeed there. Many of these cities specialize in high-tech jobs. You might lack the skills necessary to land such jobs.

You’ll have to study your own skill sets to determine if you are a good fit for any of these areas.
